Megan Reister

Dr. Megan Reister is a Professor of Special Education and Early Childhood at Franciscan University of Steubenville. She previously served as a hearing itinerant and special education teacher in Delaware and Pennsylvania, focusing on deaf education, transition services, and early intervention. Her work integrates her Catholic faith with education, including organizing retreats, leading Bible studies, and contributing to ministries like Spring in the Desert. She is a High Impact Scholar in the CCCU/Abilene Christian University’s cohort on student success and first-year experiences. Dr. Reister holds a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and degrees from Kutztown University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Her research focuses on self-advocacy and identity in hearing-impaired students, itinerant teaching practices, and fostering collaboration between educators and families. She is passionate about preparing preservice teachers to advocate for students and integrate faith-based values into education.

Dr. Reister leads two Ohio Deans Compact-funded grants focusing on special education, literacy, and teacher professional development. She also collaborates on initiatives like the Human Dignity Curriculum (HDC) and Rooted in Love Theology of the Body programs.
