Megan L. Matthews

Megan L. Matthews is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University, where she developed multiscale models of lignin biosynthesis. Her current research focuses on computational modeling of plant systems across multiple biological scales to address food security and environmental sustainability challenges in changing climates.

Her research integrates control systems theory and data-driven approaches to study plant development, photosynthesis mechanisms, and crop resilience. The Matthews Research Group develops computational methods to identify engineering strategies for sustainable agriculture under current and future climate scenarios.
