Megan Gibbons is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She teaches introductory biology courses for majors and non-majors, animal behavior, and faculty-led travel courses. Her research focuses on social behavior in salamanders, including kin recognition and mother-offspring interactions, with a strong emphasis on environmental and evolutionary biology.

Her teaching philosophy integrates field experiences, having led educational trips to Costa Rica, Honduras, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Peru, Argentina, and New Zealand. She is actively involved in UAB’s Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) initiatives, including workshops on teaching effectiveness and technology integration.
