Meers Oppenheim is a Professor of Astronomy at Boston University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds joint appointments in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research focuses on computational and theoretical space plasma physics, including ionospheric dynamics, solar atmosphere processes, and meteor trail physics. He develops supercomputer simulations for planetary-scale plasma systems and studies UV photoelectron effects in the ionosphere.
