Dr. Medhat Shehata is a Professor and Associate Dean, Teaching and Outreach in the Department of Civil Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. He holds a PhD and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PEng), contributing significantly to research, education, and engineering outreach.
Research Interests: Dr. Shehata specializes in concrete durability, aggregate reactions, and sustainable construction materials. His work focuses on developing innovative test methods to predict concrete service life, evaluate deteriorated structures, and identify optimal repair and construction materials. He is particularly interested in alkali-silica and alkali-carbonate reactions, oxidation of sulphide minerals in aggregates, and the use of recycled materials in concrete.
His recent publications highlight a strong trend in developing new testing methodologies and evaluating long-term performance of concrete with alternative cementing systems and recycled aggregates. Research areas consistently revolve around durability, sustainability, and performance prediction in concrete infrastructure.

Labs and Research Groups: He is affiliated with the Concrete Materials Lab, the Advanced Sustainable Construction Materials Lab, and the Toronto and Area Road Builders Association (TARBA) Highway Materials Laboratory, where experimental work on concrete and pavement materials is conducted.
