Meden Isaac-Lam serves as an Associate Professor of Chemistry in the College of Engineering and Sciences at Purdue University Northwest (PNW). With expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, spectroscopy, and chemical biology, she has established herself as an innovative educator and researcher committed to student success.
Dr. Isaac-Lam's research interests span multiple domains including cancer therapeutics and mental health chemistry. Her work on Chlorin-Vitamin Conjugates for Triple Negative Breast Cancer resulted in a patent in 2020, while her current interdisciplinary research examines molecular changes in the brains of military veterans with PTSD. This latter project involves collaboration with statisticians, social workers, psychologists, radiologists, and medical physics students.
As an educator, Isaac-Lam maintains high standards for her students, believing that student success is the main determinant of her own success. She creates engaging learning environments through individualized teaching and mentoring, which she considers extremely critical to student development. Her approach to mentoring emphasizes compatibility between mentor and student, well-structured goals, and consideration of each student's career path and intellectual abilities.
Her notable achievements include:
- Patent for Chlorin-Vitamin Conjugates for Triple Negative Breast Cancer (2020)
Dr. Isaac-Lam finds inspiration in the experimental aspects of chemistry and the joy of discovery, which she strives to share with her students. She views patents as important recognition that inspires innovation and believes research in science is central to the advancement of humankind. Her interdisciplinary PTSD research demonstrates how chemistry plays an essential role in mental health and provides students with examples of cutting-edge research happening on campus.
