Md Sazan Rahman

Dr. Md Sazan Rahman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Food Systems at the University of New Hampshire's College of Life Sciences and Agriculture. His research focuses on sustainable technologies for controlled environment agriculture, including energy-efficient HVAC systems, renewable energy integration, and innovative substrate development to enhance agricultural productivity while minimizing environmental impacts.

Research Focus: Dr. Rahman leads the Engineering for Agri-Environment (EAE) Lab, addressing challenges across controlled environment agriculture systems through:

• Development of sustainable HVAC technologies for greenhouses and vertical farms
• Design of porous concrete substrates for green roofs and hydroponic systems
• Thermal modeling and energy optimization of agricultural structures
• Integration of waste-recovering technologies with production systems

Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on thermal management innovations, including geothermal applications for greenhouses, evaporative cooling systems, and solar desalination technologies. His laboratory work emphasizes experimental validation of novel materials and systems for improved environmental control.

Teaching: Dr. Rahman teaches courses on Urban Agriculture (SAFS 632), Greenhouse Management & Operation (SAFS 689), and Precision Agriculture (ANFS/SAFS 895/795), training students in sustainable agricultural technology implementation.
