Md Helal Uddin serves as a Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering within the College of Engineering at Kansas State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2016 and brings extensive industry experience from chemical manufacturing and petroleum refining in Bangladesh.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, University of Nevada, Reno (2016)
- M.S. in Chemical Engineering, University of Nevada, Reno (2013)
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (2007)
Dr. Uddin's research focuses on sustainable energy solutions, emphasizing waste biomass conversion to energy/chemicals, CO2 capture and sequestration, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for renewable energy systems. His work integrates industrial process engineering expertise to develop cost-competitive clean energy and carbon-based materials for scalable industrial applications.
Scientific Awards:
- Outstanding Student Researcher Award (2016, University of Nevada, Reno)
With a strong teaching background across core chemical engineering courses—including fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, and thermodynamics—Dr. Uddin has authored a book chapter, ten journal papers, and a conference paper accumulating over 450 citations as of 2018. His doctoral research earned a U.S. patent in 2017, and he actively contributes to academic discourse through conference session leadership.
