Maya Bastian, DNP, APRN, CPNP, is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Based in Mankato, MN, she maintains an active teaching and research role focused on pediatric and advanced-practice nursing.
Her research interests concentrate on improving mental health outcomes among transgender and gender non-conforming adolescents and on developing evidence-based training programs for school personnel. This work sits at the intersection of nursing, public health, and inclusive education.
Dr. Bastian’s 2024 scoping review explores the current state of transgender and gender non-conforming mental health training provided to high-school staff, highlighting knowledge gaps and proposing strategies for more inclusive practice environments.
