Maximiliano Udenio Castro serves as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Economics and Business at KU Leuven, where he is affiliated with the Operations Management Research Group. He holds significant committee roles including membership in the Council of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Programme Committees for Handelsingenieur programs, and the Campus Council for FEB Leuven and Kortrijk.
His research centers on supply chain resilience, sustainability integration, and operational decision-making under uncertainty. Key focus areas include inventory management during environmental disruptions, empirical frameworks for sustainable supply chains, semiconductor logistics optimization, and health system impacts of R&D decisions. His work bridges theoretical operations strategy with practical applications in volatile global markets.
Professor Udenio Castro's publication record demonstrates consistent investigation into supply chain dynamics during crises, exemplified by his 2018 Journal of Operations Management article analyzing inventory agility during financial shocks. This reflects his broader research trajectory examining how organizations adapt operational processes to external disruptions.
He currently leads or co-leads ten major research initiatives:
- Structural and operational consequences of supply chain shocks (2025-2025)
- Sustainability in the Supply Chain: From Anecdotal Evidence to an Objective Empirical Framework (2024-2028)
- True demand-driven semiconductor supply chains for Europe (2024-2026)
- Sustainability strategies toward regenerative economy (2023-2027)
- Inventory management under environmental uncertainty (2022-2025)
- Health system impacts of Small Molecules R&D decisions (2021-2026)
- Sustainable Supply Chain decision making (2020-2025)
- Logistieke optimalisatie in retail (2019-2024, Co-promotor)
- Supply Chain Analytics for Sustainability (2018-2025)
As an active member of KU Leuven's Operations Management Research Group, he contributes to collaborative research advancing operational excellence through analytical modeling and empirical validation across multiple industry sectors.
