Maximilian Kardung

Maximilian Kardung is a Researcher (PhD candidate) at the Agricultural Economics and Rural Policy Group, Wageningen University & Research. He holds an MSc in Urban Environmental Management with a specialization in Environmental Economics. His research focuses on measuring and monitoring the transition to a bio-based economy, addressing economic, social, and environmental impacts of shifting from fossil-based systems. He is a core member of the EU Horizon 2020 BioMonitor project, developing frameworks for bioeconomy statistics and modeling. He also contributes to the GeneBEcon project assessing regulatory impacts of New Genomic Techniques in EU agriculture.

Key research interests include bioeconomy policy analysis, sustainability governance, and the integration of agricultural and environmental economics. He examines drivers like technology innovation, market organization, climate change, and policy design. His work bridges quantitative and qualitative methods to evaluate systemic transitions in resource use and policy effectiveness.

Publications span EU bioeconomy strategy reviews, regulatory impact analyses of genomic techniques, and frameworks for circular bioeconomy indicators. He collaborates with institutions like Wageningen Economic Research and the European Commission. His projects emphasize evidence-based policymaking for sustainable development goals.
