His research focuses on the intersection of racial and class-based hierarchies within urban education and neighborhoods. Key strands include:
- Contemporary racial politics in K-12 urban education, emphasizing how communities challenge segregation and opportunity hoarding through qualitative methods (interviews, ethnography, archival research).
- Racialized and classed dynamics of family decisions in school and housing markets, particularly in segregated urban contexts.
- Analysis of the racial wealth gap and its structural implications.
He has taught courses on the Sociology of Race, Youth and Childhood, and Black and Latinx Feminist Perspectives on Education. His dissertation, “School Consolidation in the Unequal City: Challenging the Status Quo and Rethinking Racial Justice,” explores historical relationships between Chicago schools and community conflicts over segregation, with plans to develop it into a book manuscript.
