Maxie Roessler is an Associate Professor in EPR Spectroscopy at Imperial College London's Department of Chemistry, within the Faculty of Natural Sciences. She leads the Roessler Research Group, focused on bioinorganic chemistry and EPR spectroscopy, particularly investigating electron transfer processes in biological systems. Her work includes developing methodologies to study respiratory complex I (R-CI) activity and ROS interactions in membrane environments. She directs the Centre for Pulse EPR Spectroscopy (PEPR), established through a £2.3M EPSRC grant, and has secured over £4M as Principal Investigator.
Education: DPhil (2012) from Oxford under Prof. Fraser Armstrong. Career: Started as independent researcher at Queen Mary University of London (2013), moved to Imperial College (2019). Awards include the 2024 Royal Society of Chemistry Joseph Black Prize and 2022 European Bioinorganic Chemistry Medal. Active in outreach through Imperial Lates and Great Exhibition Road Festival.
Research spans ROS effects on membrane proteins, proteoliposome systems, and EPR applications. Collaborations include the Medical Research Council Mitochondrial Biology Unit. Lab facilities include state-of-the-art pulse EPR equipment, electrochemistry setups, and photoexcitation systems.
