Max Saunders is a Visiting Professor at King's College London's Department of English within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. He specializes in 19th-20th century literature, particularly Modernist fiction, poetry, and criticism. His research focuses on three interconnected strands: Modernist literary networks (especially Ford Madox Ford), the relationship between auto/biography and fiction (Life-Writing), and Literary Impressionism's connection to Modernism.
Saunders directs the Arts & Humanities Research Institute and co-directs the interdisciplinary Centre for Life-Writing Research. His ERC-funded 'Ego-Media' project investigates how digital media transform self-presentation. He has served on scientific committees for multiple EC-funded networks including COTEPRA, ACUME, and ACUME-2.
His teaching encompasses Modernist fiction, First World War literature, and biographical writing at both BA and MA levels. Saunders has contributed to media engagements on Ford Madox Ford and T.S. Eliot, and curated cultural events including exhibitions like 'Alfred Cohen: An American Artist in Europe'.
