Max Carter-Brown is a Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Engineering's Life Sciences School in Cambridge. He joined ARU in November 2023 and is part of the Biomedical Research Group. His research focuses on evolutionary biology, plant biodiversity, bioinformatics, and statistical modeling. Max holds a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Edinburgh and a BA in Biological Sciences from the University of Oxford.
His research interests include plant hybridization, host-parasite interactions in parasitic plants (e.g., Euphrasia), mitochondrial genome diversity, and somatic mutation genomics in long-lived trees. He has collaborated with institutions like the Royal Botanical Gardens Edinburgh, Royal Botanical Gardens Kew, and the Wellcome Sanger Research Institute, where he contributed to the Darwin Tree of Life project.
Recent publications highlight his work on genomic tools for biodiversity analysis, host-parasite dynamics, and plant taxonomic data integration. Max is open to advising students in genetics, genomics, or plant ecology. He is a member of the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland and the British Ecological Society.
