Mauro Junior

Mauro Junior is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Physics at Khalifa University (KU). He earned his PhD in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona (1992) and has held prestigious roles including Head of the Department of Condensed Matter Theory at the Czech Republic's Institute of Physics and Professor at Sheffield Hallam University.

• Current research focuses on Quantum Transport and Optics, Nonequilibrium Green's Functions, and Terahertz/Mid-Infrared Radiation.
• Developed the TERA-MIR Network and unified THz and Mid-Infrared Radiation as the Chair of COST ACTION MP1204 and NATO TERA-MIR Conferences.
• Contributions span medical diagnostics (e.g., THz breath analysis for early disease detection) and environmental applications (e.g., water quality sensors).

Scientific Awards:

• Named SPIE Fellow (2011) for theoretical contributions to semiconductor materials.
• Received the SPIE Innovation Award (2019) for service in organizing NATO/COST TERA-MIR conferences.

Teaching: Courses include Quantum Physics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Quantum Transport and Optics.
