Mauricio Delgado-Ayala

Dr. Mauricio Delgado-Ayala is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW), affiliated with Scottish Rite for Children. He specializes in neurorehabilitation of children with motor disorders of central origin, including cerebral palsy and neurogenetic disorders such as holoprosencephaly and tuberous sclerosis complex. He completed his medical degree at the University of Monterrey and postgraduate training in pediatrics and neurology at the University of Ottawa, where he also earned certifications in child neurology and neurophysiology. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and has held leadership roles, including serving as president of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine since 2019 and co-founding the Mexican Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities.

His research focuses on cerebral palsy, spasticity management, genetic disorders, and neurodevelopmental disabilities. Key areas include botulinum toxin therapy for spasticity, neuromuscular rehabilitation strategies, and molecular genetics of neurodevelopmental syndromes. He has contributed to clinical trials evaluating treatments like abobotulinumtoxinA and developed tools such as the GO Move website for children with cerebral palsy.

Dr. Delgado-Ayala’s work spans over 130 publications, with recent studies addressing TUBB4A-related leukodystrophy, RAB1A haploinsufficiency, and GATAD2B-associated disorders. His awards include the Royal College of Physicians Fellowship and leadership in major academic societies. He actively collaborates on projects like the Standardized Assessment for Motor Disorder Management and investigates novel therapies for neurogenetic conditions.
