Maureen Long is the Bruce D. Alexander '65 Professor and Chair of Earth & Planetary Sciences at Yale University. Her research focuses on mantle dynamics, subduction zone processes, and seismic anisotropy. She leads field experiments like SEISConn and NEST, investigating continental lithosphere evolution in the Appalachian Mountains and New England. Long teaches courses on seismology, natural disasters, and forensic geoscience. She chairs the EPS department and previously served as Director of Graduate Studies and IDEA committee chair, advocating for equity in Earth sciences. Her work includes developing seismic tomography methods and mentoring over 20 students and postdocs. She runs the Field Experiences for Science Teachers (FEST) program, fostering high school science education. Long holds a PhD from MIT and has authored/co-authored over 120 peer-reviewed papers, with awards including the James B. Macelwane Medal.
