Maureen Jean MacGinley is a Lecturer in Social Work at the University of New South Wales within the School of Arts, Design & Architecture. With approximately 30 years of professional experience, she specializes in therapeutic work with survivors of interpersonal violence and child abuse, particularly adult and child sexual abuse cases.
Her educational background includes:
- DSW (Doctorate of Social Work) - current candidate
- MCSW (Master of Counselling Social Work) - with Excellence
- BSW (Bachelor of Social Work)
Maureen's research focuses on clinical social work practice and trauma-informed approaches, with particular expertise in addressing child sexual abuse, sexual assault, family violence, and child abuse and neglect. She has extensive experience working therapeutically with survivors of interpersonal violence and those experiencing various forms of adversity and psychosocial developmental challenges. Her current doctoral research explores the experiences of shame for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, aiming to enhance institutional, community and therapeutic responses to survivors through grounded theory investigation of self-reported lived experiences.
Maureen actively engages with community organizations through:
- Survivors and Mates Support Network (SAMSN), providing input and research translation in training programs for health and community workers
- Ghosthunter The Film project as a member of the clinical advisory team developing professional training resources titled 'Playing A Part in Recovery'
