Maureen Boyle is a Research Fellow at the Australian National University (ANU) within the College of Engineering, Computing and Cybernetics. She is affiliated with the Battery Storage and Grid Integration Program and holds dual appointments in the research groups focused on Adaptation, livelihoods and development in Asia and the Pacific and Energy economics and policy.
Education:
- Doctorate from Curtin University (2020) examining transnational actors' influence on energy development in Cambodia
Her research centers on energy equity, energy anthropology, and socio-technical change, with over 15 years of interdisciplinary experience across government (including ARENA), industry, and non-profit sectors. Boyle's work critically analyzes environmental discourse through anthropological and policy lenses, emphasizing just energy transitions in the Asia-Pacific region. Her approach integrates lived experiences with technical energy systems analysis.
Analysis of her 2021-2024 publications reveals consistent focus on socio-technical energy challenges: battery storage trials examine community engagement in grid integration; Cambodia case studies highlight equity gaps in hydropower development; and cultural analyses explore energy futures in media narratives. This body of work demonstrates her unique position bridging engineering programs with social science perspectives.
