Maureen Alyson Craig is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience at Duke University, where she leads the Diversity and Social Processes Lab. She previously held positions as Assistant and Associate Professor of Psychology at New York University. Her research examines how diversity, inequality, and discrimination shape intergroup relations, policy preferences, and social change dynamics.
Dr. Craig holds a Ph.D. (2014) and M.S. (2010) in Psychology from Northwestern University, and a B.A. (2008) from Purdue University.
Her work investigates racial hierarchies, coalition formation, and stigma dynamics, with a focus on how demographic shifts influence attitudes among racial groups. She explores tactical responses to social inequity and the psychological underpinnings of political decision-making.
Her recent publications (2020–2025) focus on intergroup relations, racial coalitions, and systemic inequality. Common themes include the impact of demographic changes on interminority attitudes, strategies for reducing bias, and framing effects in policy advocacy. Studies frequently analyze power hierarchies and identity-based alliances across diverse social contexts.
She directs the Diversity and Social Processes Lab, which conducts empirical research on navigating diversity and inequity in social systems.
