Maura Biava is a Lecturer in ceramic sculpture at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, teaching the full-time and part-time Bachelor Fine Arts programs. She conducts Academy-funded research exploring how artistic sensibility can expand 3D clay extrusion printing capabilities to generate complex forms and surfaces. Biava holds a degree from the Brera Academy (Milan, 1992) and studied at the Rijksakademie (Amsterdam, 1997-1999). Her practice includes international residencies at institutions like the European Ceramic Work Center (2008), American Academy in Rome (2010-2011), ISCP NYC (2014), and Le Maupas A.I.R. (2017).
Her exhibitions span global venues including Museum Fridericianum (Kassel), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), and Museum of Design (San Francisco). Recent solo shows include Zero & Five at Galerie Caroline O'Breen (Amsterdam) and Form Informed at Printed Matter NYC and Museum Beelden aan Zee (The Hague). She has delivered lectures at University La Sapienza (Rome), ISBA Academy (Besançon), Rietveld Academy (Amsterdam), and her alma mater Brera Academy.
Biava’s work bridges traditional ceramics with contemporary interdisciplinary practices, focusing on material experimentation and technological adaptation in artistic production.
