Mattis Kuhn is a researcher and artist at the University of Art and Design Offenbach, where he explores the reciprocal becoming of humans, technologies, and shared environments. His work intersects humanities, engineering, and aesthetics through text-based systems like algorithms and AI.
He contributes to the DFG-funded research network Das Wissen der digitalen Literatur and the ground zero research group at the University for Media Art Cologne. His artistic installations, such as Grasslands for Insects (2022) and the upcoming performance neither host nor guest (2024/2025), have been exhibited at ZKM Karlsruhe, EMAF Osnabrück, and ERLKÖNIG Bremen. He has co-curated exhibitions like I am here to learn and How to Make a Paradise at Frankfurter Kunstverein.
Kuhn's research focuses on non-binary human-machine relationships, decentralization, and the role of AI as a diffraction apparatus for questioning perception and agency. His recent publications analyze intersections between Karen Barad’s agential realism and AI-generated art, as well as collaborative AI in artistic processes. He teaches courses on experimental writing with AI, AI-based worlding, and Python programming for creative applications.
