Mattias Jacobsson is an Associate Professor of Media Technology at the Department of Natural Sciences, Environment and Technology at Södertörn University. He serves as a Program Coordinator and Lecturer, specializing in interaction design, game development, and mobile services while integrating technical, design, and artistic perspectives into pedagogy.
His research spans human-computer interaction (HCI), autonomous agents, and technology for health and sustainability, with a focus on the societal impact of digitalization and AI. He has contributed to projects like ECAgents (European embodied agents) and the Mobile Life Center (10-year VINNOVA funding). Key themes include ethical data usage, user-driven robot design, and collaborative media systems like Push!Music and GlowBots.
- Research Areas: Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Mobile Services, Autonomous Agents, Health Technology, Sustainability, Artificial Intelligence, Ethical Data Practices.
His recent publications highlight collaborative filtering in mobile media, user strategies in context photography, and persona-driven robotics design. These works, often part of ECAgents, explore how extreme user groups (e.g., exotic pet owners) can inform consumer robotics and how peer-to-peer networks enable informal media sharing.
Students mentored include Jeff Knurek, whose work on robot visual communication patterns was part of ECAgents. Current research at the Future Applications Lab (FAL) investigates AI tools, fair data practices, and migration of FAL's activities to Stockholm University's Mobile Life Center.
