Matthias Haase is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Chicago, where he has taught since 2017. His research bridges ethics, moral psychology, and the philosophy of action, with a strong emphasis on German Idealism and its intersections with Aristotelian thought. He has also contributed to debates on Wittgenstein and Frege.
His scholarly work explores the possibility of practical species of knowledge, reason, and truth, interrogating their implications for foundational ethical concepts like good, ought, and justice, as well as for action theory, character, and will. His publications reflect a sustained engagement with figures like Anscombe, Ryle, and Thompson, alongside historical thinkers such as Aristotle, Kant, Hegel, and Marx.
