Matthias Domhardt is a Research Associate in the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at Ulm University, affiliated with the Medical Faculty. He is a licensed child and adolescent psychotherapist (CBT) and holds a PhD in psychology. His work bridges clinical practice and digital mental health research.
His research focuses on digital mental health interventions, particularly mechanisms of change in internet- and mobile-based therapies for depression, anxiety, and PTSD. He investigates how these interventions work, for whom, and under which conditions, with a special emphasis on youth and patients with chronic pain. His work integrates meta-analytic methods and evidence synthesis to advance psychotherapy science.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend toward understanding mediators in digital CBT, with multiple systematic reviews and meta-analyses on depression, anxiety, and PTSD. His work increasingly explores comorbid conditions like chronic pain and subthreshold disorders, contributing to preventive and personalized digital mental health strategies.
