National Research Institute for Mathematics and Computer Scienceمعرفی
Matthias Christandl is a Professor of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen, leading the Quantum for Life Center (Novo Nordisk Foundation) and co-PI of the VILLUM Foundation's QMATH center. He also heads the UCPH Quantum Hub, a cross-faculty initiative. His research focuses on quantum information theory, quantum cryptography, and mathematical physics, with contributions to quantum algorithms, tensor networks, and algebraic complexity. During 2024–2025, he holds the Turing Chair at QuSoft/CWI in Amsterdam, fostering collaborations in quantum software and theory.
Education: PhD (2006, University of Cambridge), Diploma (2002, ETH Zurich). Previous roles include Assistant Professorships at ETH Zurich (2010–2014) and University of Munich (2008–2010), and postdoctoral research at Cambridge (2005–2008).
Research interests span quantum communication protocols, entanglement verification, and the interplay between quantum mechanics and information processing. His work bridges theoretical computer science, mathematics, and physics, with key results in quantum position verification, tensor rank analysis, and fault-tolerant quantum coding.
Scientific awards include ERC Starting (2013) and Consolidator Grants (2018), and election to the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters (2016). Major collaborations involve QuSoft, CWI, and international teams in quantum information and complexity theory.
Grants and leadership: ERC grants, VILLUM Foundation, and Novo Nordisk Foundation funding. His group actively mentors PhD/postdoc researchers and contributes to quantum education via the MSc Quantum Computer Science program.
