Matthias Baier is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at Lund University's Sociology of Law Department. He holds a PhD in Sociology of Law from Lund University and studied law at Uppsala University. His research focuses on legal norms, societal participation, and civil society, particularly examining how norms influence behavior and legal systems. He has co-edited the anthology Social and Legal Norms: Towards a Socio-Legal Understanding of Normativity (2013) and led studies on normative beliefs in Colombia and Sweden, exploring 'general norm consciousness' to understand collective behavior changes. He collaborates on projects addressing new media equity with Marja Åkerström and has contributed to comparative legal culture research across nations. His work also involves research quality processes and sustainability science frameworks.
