Dr. Matthew Wylie is a Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Materials Science at Queen's University Belfast's School of Pharmacy, appointed in 2021. He holds an MPharm (First Class Honours, 2013) and PhD (2018) from the same institution, specializing in preventative strategies against medical device contamination. His career includes post-doctoral research and leadership in EPSRC-funded projects.
His multidisciplinary research integrates materials science, microbiology, and chemistry to combat medical device infections and antibiotic resistance. Primary interests include:
- Biomaterials and hydrogels development
- Surface modification strategies
- Ionic liquids/eutectic solvents
- 3D printing for medical applications
- Triggered antimicrobial drug delivery systems
Recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate strong focus on 3D-printed medical solutions, antimicrobial surfaces, and biofilm analysis, with applications spanning tissue engineering, nutrient delivery, and infection prevention.
