Matthew Wachs is an Associate Instructional Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University, where he researched operating systems and storage systems, and dual Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics from Cornell University.
Teaching focuses on core computer science areas including operating systems, computer architecture, programming languages, and discrete mathematics. Develops curriculum for both undergraduate and graduate levels, emphasizing foundational systems concepts and practical implementation skills.
Prior to UChicago, taught at Carnegie Mellon University where he mentored Master's students and served on thesis committees. Brings industry-informed perspectives to pedagogy through research experience in systems optimization.
