Dr. Matthew W. Priddy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University (MSU), serving as the Additive Manufacturing Technical Lead at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) and Thrust Leader at the Marvin B. Dow Advanced Composites Institute (ACI). He directs the Computational Mechanics and Materials Laboratory (CMML), focusing on computational solid mechanics, additive manufacturing, and biomedical design.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology (2016)
- M.S. in Civil Engineering, Mississippi State University (2010)
- B.S. in Civil Engineering, Mississippi State University (2008)
Research Interests: Dr. Priddy’s research integrates computational modeling with experimental methods to advance additive manufacturing, mechanics of materials, and biomedical applications. His lab develops predictive tools for material behavior, including finite element analysis of AM processes and in-situ monitoring for biomedical devices.
Awards:
- 2022 Outstanding Faculty Technical Innovation Award
- 2021-2022 BCoE Academy of Distinguished Teachers Award
- 2021 MSU Reveille 25 Under 40
Advising & Grants: Mentor of over 20 graduate students, emphasizing collaborative research and translatable skills. Current research includes wire-arc AM process control, material degradation studies, and open-source digital twins. Active in curriculum development through roles on the University Committee on Courses and Curricula.
Labs & Teams: Leads CMML, collaborating with CAVS and ACI to bridge computational and experimental research in AM and materials science. The lab hosts interdisciplinary teams addressing challenges in aerospace, biomedical, and civil engineering.
