Professor Matthew Turner is a faculty member at the University of Southampton's School of Electronics and Computer Science, specializing in Cyber-Physical Systems. His research focuses on robust control, adaptive control, and absolute stability analysis of nonlinear control systems, with applications in aerospace engineering and intersections with artificial intelligence.
- Education: BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Surrey (1996), PhD in Control Engineering from University of Leicester (2000)
Research interests center on enhancing control systems' robustness in unforeseen scenarios, anti-windup algorithms for constrained control signals, and absolute stability analysis for nonlinear systems. Recent work explores the convergence of control theory with AI, particularly through neural networks and aerospace applications.
Publications from 2021-2025 demonstrate expertise in stability analysis, anti-windup design, and nonlinear control. Articles span machine learning integration with control systems, rigorous mathematical frameworks, and practical aerospace implementations.
- Scientific Awards: Best Paper Award (2018)
- Teaching: ELEC3201 Robotic Systems, ELEC2210/2211/2219 Vector Calculus, ELEC6260 Nonlinear Control of Aerospace Systems
Dr. Turner supervises control systems research, particularly aerospace applications, and collaborates with institutions like DLR Braunschweig on flight test campaigns. His work has been funded by EPSRC and industry partners.
