Matthew Smith

Dr Matthew Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Geography at the University of Worcester. His research focuses on aerobiology, biogeography, and phenology, particularly examining airborne allergenic pollen and fungal spores in the context of environmental change. He has extensive teaching experience in the UK and internationally, covering environmental analysis, meteorology, and climate change.

• Qualifications: PhD in Developing Medium and Long-range Forecast Models for Allergenic Pollen in the UK; BSc (Hons) Environmental Science.

His research interests include the impacts of environmental change on plant phenology and allergy-related health issues. He has co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles, five book chapters, and numerous conference papers. He serves as an editor for Aerobiologia, Grana, and the International Journal of Biometeorology, and is a member of the European Aerobiology Society and the International Association for Aerobiology.

• Awards: Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society.

Teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels, integrating his research into modules like Environmental Management and Sustainability and Geography BSc (Hons).
