Matthew Sergeant

Matthew Sergeant is a Senior Lecturer in Composition at the Bath School of Music and Performing Arts (Bath Spa University). His research explores agency, materiality, and philosophy of new music, with a focus on 20th/21st Century Musicology and experimental notation.

Matthew's recent compositions highlight experimental vocal techniques, microtonal brass exploration, and electroacoustic integration. He has ongoing creative partnerships with soloists including Daryl Buckley and Tristram Williams, and his work Meeting the Universe Halfway was nominated for the 2019 Ivors Academy Award.
