Dr. Matthew J. Roy is a musicologist and professor specializing in musicology, with a PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2018). He holds a M.A. in Music from Eastern Washington University and a B.A. in Piano Performance from Westmont College. His research focuses on music and childhood, genre studies, 19th-century music, Soviet music and culture, and canon formation. His work bridges historical analysis with interdisciplinary interests in piano repertoire and neuroacoustics.
His notable scholarly contributions include a dissertation exploring the musicalization of Romantic childhood and a groundbreaking study on Soviet piano prelude sets. He has published in Clavier Companion and presented at academic conferences. Beyond academia, he practices neuroacoustic therapy and maintains active roles as a pianist, organist, and choral conductor.
