Matthew Mailman, DMA, is a Professor of Conducting at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music, Oklahoma City University (OCU), since 1995. He leads OCU’s award-winning Wind Ensemble and Wind Philharmonic, serves as Music Director for Oklahoma Opera and Music Theater Company, and oversees the Masters in Conducting program. His work spans operas, musicals, and orchestral performances, with 55 productions and collaborations with composers like Nico Muhly and Michael Daugherty.
- Education: Bachelor’s and Master’s from Northwestern University; Doctorate in Conducting from University of North Texas.
- Key Roles: Music Director for El Paso Opera’s Sunday in the Park With George (2024), Conductor for Opera in the Ozarks (2007–2008), and founder of Oklahoma Youth Winds (2004).
Research interests focus on new music advocacy, conducting pedagogy, and interdisciplinary performance. A 2023 BroadwayWorld winner, he has also been a finalist in international competitions and published in The Instrumentalist and Teaching Music.
