His research interests include:
- Quantum Foundations and Interpretations
- Quantum Information Theory
- Category Theory Applications in Physics
- Philosophical Aspects of Quantum Mechanics
Dr. Leifer leads the Southern California Quantum Foundations Hub funded by the John Templeton Foundation, focusing on the nature of the quantum state, past and future boundary conditions, and agency in quantum observers. He has organized major conferences including the Quantum Physics and Logic (QPL) 2019 and the AAV Anniversary Conference celebrating 30 years of weak values.
As an educator, he participates in Chapman's interdisciplinary Math, Physics, and Philosophy (MPP) program, mentoring doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers in quantum foundations research. He frequently engages in public outreach through online discussions with prominent physicists like Sean Carroll and Travis Norsen.
