معرفی
Matthew Lawrence is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology at Alfred State College (SUNY) since 2007, teaching core courses in machine design, fluid power, and renewable energy systems while establishing the institution's specialized fluid power program.
His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering with Machine Design specialization from The Pennsylvania State University (2007), an M.S. in the same field (2004), and a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering with Power and Machinery focus (1997).
Lawrence's research pioneers sustainable solutions for plastic waste conversion into fuel, advancing fluid power education and agricultural machinery design. His work integrates mechanical engineering principles with environmental applications to develop practical technologies for energy recovery and efficient manufacturing processes.
His publication record (2004-2017) demonstrates consistent innovation in plastic-derived fuel systems and fluid power education, with multiple papers receiving awards including the Best Paper Award at the 35th National Agricultural Plastics Congress for melt-depth prediction research.
Professional recognition includes:
- SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching
- Best Paper Award – 35th National Agricultural Plastics Congress
- Alfred State Innovation Award
- Superior Paper Award from ASABE
- Harold V. and Velma B. Walton Doctoral Endowment
- First Place – Penn State Gamma Sigma Delta Research Expo
- Third Place – Penn State Graduate Exhibition
- Membership in Alpha Epsilon Honor Society
As an educator, Lawrence mentors students through Senior Technical Projects (BSET 8003) and serves as Department Chair, Curriculum Coordinator, and Faculty Athletic Representative. His leadership extends to the Alfred State Presidential Search Committee, Technology Challenge Competition, and NCAA Division III National Nominating Committee.
He developed Alfred State's fluid power laboratory and certification pathway for the International Fluid Power Society Hydraulic Specialist Exam, creating industry-aligned training facilities that bridge academic theory with professional practice.
