Matthew Huddleston is Professor of Physics at Trevecca Nazarene University's School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. He holds a B.A. from Greenville College, M.Sc. from Rice University, and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University, with over two decades of experience in magnetospheric space physics.
His research focuses on plasma dynamics in Earth's magnetosphere, particularly ionospheric contributions to plasma sheet formation and storm/substorm phenomena. He established the Near Space Research program, launching student payloads to 100,000+ feet using weather balloons. This program received NASA and NSF support and fostered collaborations with multiple universities and K-12 institutions.
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on magnetospheric plasma sources, with recent work examining cold ionospheric ions as drivers of space weather events. Research trends show progression from observational studies to advanced modeling of plasma transport mechanisms.
