Matthew Holman

Matthew Holman is a Smithsonian Senior Astrophysicist and Lecturer at Harvard University, serving as Interim Director of the Minor Planet Center. He holds PhD in Planetary Sciences from MIT and is known for discovering multiple moons of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. His research focuses on solar system dynamics and observational surveys for trans-Neptunian objects using facilities including Kitt Peak, Cerro Tololo, and Magellan telescopes.

Research interests include:

• Long-term dynamics of solar system and exoplanetary systems
• Development of numerical integration algorithms for orbital mechanics
• Observational techniques for detecting faint Kuiper Belt objects
• Characterization of irregular satellite populations
