Matthew Hoch serves as a Part Time Limited Term Faculty member in the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, concurrently holding a professorship in voice at Auburn University since 2012 after previously serving as assistant professor at Shorter College/University.
His educational credentials include:
- BM from Ithaca College
- MM from the Hartt School
- DMA from the New England Conservatory
- Certificate in vocology from the National Center for Voice and Speech
Hoch's research centers on voice pedagogy with specialized focus on sacred music, contemporary commercial music (CCM), and repertoire by women and global traditions. As author of nine influential books—including "Voice Secrets" and the "So You Want to Sing" series—he bridges academic scholarship with practical vocal training methodologies across diverse musical genres.
His distinguished recognition includes:
- Van L. Lawrence Fellowship (2016) from the Voice Foundation and NATS
- Auburn University College of Liberal Arts Teaching Excellence Award (2018)
Hoch mentors students who achieve prominence in classical and musical theatre, with award wins from the Metropolitan Opera National Council, NATS, and MTNA.
