Matthew H.G. Katz

Matthew H.G. Katz serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, holding the Lockton Distinguished Chair in Pancreatic Cancer Research. An internationally recognized leader in pancreatic and periampullary malignancies treatment, he directs the gastrointestinal cancer program with a focus on surgical innovation and clinical trial leadership.

His research spans pancreatic cancer therapeutics, surgical oncology techniques, and quality improvement in cancer care. Dr. Katz has pioneered clinical protocols for advanced pancreatic cancer treatment through national cooperative studies, with emphasis on chemotherapy-radiation interactions and surgical interventions like the Whipple procedure. His work bridges translational research and clinical application to advance personalized cancer treatment paradigms.

Dr. Katz has co-authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications and served as senior author for national clinical guidelines on potentially curable pancreatic cancer.
