Matthew Guthrie is an Assistant Professor in Residence in the Department of Physics at the University of Connecticut. He joined UConn in 2022, focusing on three main areas: teaching introductory physics courses, conducting physics education research, and modernizing the university’s planetarium and observatory facilities. His research emphasizes equitable teaching practices, online learning environments, and the pedagogical value of Lagrangian mechanics.

Research Interests:
- Optimizing group work dynamics and inclusive pedagogy in physics education

- Revitalizing physics education through modernized instructional tools and facilities
- Exploring the educational benefits of Lagrangian formulations in classical and relativistic physics
He has co-founded MidataLabs, a nonprofit focused on advancing public data literacy, and previously served as an Adjunct Professor at multiple institutions. His work includes developing curricula for UConn’s Studio facilities and leading efforts to integrate advanced technology into the planetarium and observatory.
