Matthew Collier, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biology and Chair of the Department at Wittenberg University. He also serves as the Pre-Health Advisor. His research focuses on plant ecology and genetics, particularly the interaction between dandelions ( Taraxacum officinale ) and metal-contaminated environments. He investigates metal tolerance mechanisms in plants, genetic variation in polluted ecosystems, and phytoremediation potential.
Dr. Collier holds a B.A. in Biology from Wittenberg University, an M.S. in Botany from Miami University, and a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Cincinnati. His long-term research also explores the impact of invasive species like Garlic Mustard and Amur Honeysuckle on midwestern forests.
He teaches courses such as Concepts of Biology, Biological Literacy, Genetics, and Morphology of Vascular Plants. His work bridges ecological and genetic perspectives to address environmental challenges.
