معرفی
Matthew Charles Reid is an Assistant Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University, joining in 2016. He holds a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago (2004) and a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Princeton University (2014). Prior to academia, he taught high school chemistry in Tanzania with the Peace Corps (2004–2006), worked as a laboratory technician at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, and conducted postdoctoral research at EPFL in Switzerland (2014–2016).
His research focuses on applying biogeochemistry and ecosystem engineering to address water quality and greenhouse gas emissions. Current projects emphasize nature-based solutions like denitrifying woodchip bioreactors and wetlands for sustainable pollution control. Reid teaches CEE 4530 (Laboratory Research in Environmental Engineering) and CEE 6530 (Water Chemistry for Environmental Engineering), emphasizing problem-based learning and environmental stewardship.
His awards include the NSF CAREER Award (2023) and the Marie Curie Fellowship (2014). He is active in the American Geophysical Union and serves as a journal reviewer. His lab, the Ecological Engineering Research Lab, explores carbon metabolism, arsenic cycling, and bioreactor performance under dynamic environmental conditions.
