Matthew Carroll is an Associate Professor (Research) at the School of Rural Health, Monash University. His work focuses on healthy ageing, lifelong learning, and the impact of environmental disasters on older populations. He leads the Hazelwood Health Study, investigating long-term health effects of the 2014 Hazelwood coal mine fire. Key projects include research into health literacy challenges in aged care and improving school indoor air quality. He has received the Dean's Award for Research Impact (2017) and actively contributes to initiatives like the Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA) program.
Research interests span climate change adaptation for older adults, social isolation mitigation, and disaster resilience.
