Matthew C Tresch is a Professor at Northwestern University, holding appointments in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Department of Neuroscience under the Feinberg School of Medicine, as well as the McCormick School of Engineering. He earned his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1998.
- Education: PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1998)
His research focuses on neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and motor control. He investigates how the nervous system coordinates muscle activity to maintain joint balance and locomotion, with specific interest in functional electrical stimulation and biomechanical feedback mechanisms.
Recent publications highlight advancements in battery-free implantable stimulation platforms for spinal and muscular applications, sensory feedback's role in quadriceps coordination during locomotion, and biomechanical regularization of central pattern generators. These works span neuroprosthetics, neuromechanics, and sensory-motor integration.
