Matthew Burg, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and holds a secondary appointment in Anesthesiology at Yale School of Medicine. His research focuses on the role of psychological factors, stress, and emotional states in cardiovascular disease progression and prognosis. He investigates interventions to mitigate cardiovascular risks linked to stress, targeting populations with hypertension, ischemic heart disease, arrhythmias, and congestive heart failure.
Education: PhD from West Virginia University (1984), Post-doctoral Fellowship at Duke University School of Medicine (1986).
Research Interests: Stress physiology, behavioral medicine, cardiovascular pathophysiology, and translational research. Current projects address sleep patterns, wearable device data in heart care, and the impact of psychological factors on blood pressure responses in cardiovascular conditions like takotsubo syndrome. His work is funded by NIH and the Veterans Administration.
