Matthew Billard

Matthew Billard, PhD, is a Research Professor and Director of Research in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the UNC School of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His roles include leadership in research administration and faculty governance through the Curriculum Faculty Executive Committee. He holds a BS from the University of Illinois (1996), MS from Illinois State University (2002), PhD from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (2008), and completed postdoctoral training at Duke University (2008-2011) and UNC Chapel Hill (2012-2015).

His research interests span cell biology, immunology, and physiology, with a focus on molecular mechanisms in cancer and neurobiology. Notable career milestones include NIAID-funded research and leadership development programs at UNC.

Dr. Billard has received prestigious awards such as the AAI Public Policy Fellowship and maintains active engagement in academic administration through UNC’s leadership initiatives.
