Dr. Matthew Bennett is Professor of BioSciences and Director of the Systems, Synthetic, & Physical Biology Program at Rice University. His interdisciplinary research combines theoretical and experimental approaches to investigate gene regulatory dynamics across scales.
Research focuses on uncovering design principles of gene networks and synthetic microbial consortia, engineering novel genetic circuits for biomedical applications, and developing mathematical models of biological systems. The lab aims to create synthetic multicellular systems for environmental and medical solutions.
Recent publications demonstrate innovations in plasmid engineering, microbial community homeostasis, and programmable pattern formation in cellular systems. The team utilizes tools from synthetic biology, computational modeling, and microfluidics to advance foundational knowledge and applications.
